My approach was practical: connect theory to lived experience. I certainly found memorization practice through many many flashcards to be incredibly helpful in ensuring that I was well versed in the terminology of the standard. In addition to those provided by ACMP, I searched and and utilized exercises on resources like Quizlet and Change Management Study Hall to help reinforce that learning. However, what I found to be particularly impactful was the reflection my preparation prompted. In carefully reviewing and studying the Standard as my guide, I mapped it against real projects I had led. It was affirming to have the strengths of my practice reinforced through the Standard, while at the same time, an important opportunity to identify those areas of potential improvement in my practice.

Earning my CCMP is a milestone that affirms years of hands-on change leadership. I prepared for my CCMP using a structured and very practical approach. I started by studying the ACMP Standard, which I received from my coach, to familiarize myself with the core concepts. While I was still going through it, my coach organized a series of lectures that helped me understand the material more clearly and put everything into context.

Why did you decide to pursue the CCMP?

In 2020 I was earmarked for a three year Change Management project. At the time the firm had its own methodology which aligned best with the standard. I was given the opportunity to become certified via Prosci , but I never connected with the approach when compared with the standard. I knew that I wanted to become a CCMP, however between work demands and. some procrastination it took me longer than anticipated.

How did you prepare for the CCMP?

I read the standard several times, however outside of what I knew already, I had a challenge with memorizing the inputs and outputs which was a lot for my aging brain. I had bought the Ready, Set CCMP guide, though helpful it lacked what I really needed. Due to the demands of work and procrastination I was faced with “you have to schedule the exam now.” When I set the date which I did two weeks before the exam and three days before my CCMP exam application would expire, I knew I had to get serious I only had one shot. I practiced MCQs but I wanted more until four days before my exam I came across the Change Management Study Hall which was a game changer. I realized after doing their sample mcqs that my current medium was not sufficient to get me across the finish line. I made the decision then to pay for the mcqs and the study aids which helped me reinforced the body of knowledge. Similar to the PMP exam, I practiced doing the MCQs and reviewed not only my correct answers but what I got wrong. I did the MCQs which were about 500 questions at least 3 times while doing some of the exercises that were provided. I knew if I had more time with the content I would have scored higher, however I am grateful for Anne and her resources.

I have not seen the benefits as yet from a professional standpoint. But I believe from a marketability standpoint it will make my presence better taking into account that not a lot of people have the certification globally. After several successful years leading clients through various changes associated with workplace moves and changes, and to continue my Change Management leadership at Gensler in the Southeast region, as well as enhance my understanding of how design impacts people, I decided to pursue a certification in change management with ACMP.

Reaching the nearest examination center required traveling to a neighboring country, which added both an extra layer of investment and motivation to succeed. I didn’t take a course, just practiced with sample questions and reflected on real-life projects. It helped me structure what I already knew into a clearer, standardized approach.

Why did you decide to pursue the CCMP?

After more than 12 years leading people, process, and technology changes in the Federal government, I’ve deeply understood the importance of structured, thoughtful change management. I’ve seen firsthand how the right approach can reduce resistance, build engagement, and support long-term transformation. When I learned about the CCMP® certification through ACMP, I saw an opportunity to formalize the expertise I had built over the years—and to demonstrate my continued commitment to public service during a time when the pace and complexity of change in government is unprecedented. Pursuing the CCMP® certification was not only about professional growth but also about reinforcing my credibility as a trusted change leader who can support employees, partners, and citizens through meaningful transitions.

How did you prepare for the CCMP?

I took an immersive and intentional study approach because I was determined to fast-track my certification. I submitted my application on March 2 and received notification that I was approved for the exam on March 10. I dedicated myself to focused study—reviewing the ACMP Standard, practicing scenario-based questions, committing processes and definitions to memory, and connecting the core principles back to the real-world change initiatives I’ve led across the Federal landscape. I tested on April 11 and was elated to pass. This experience helped solidify my understanding of the methodology while enhancing my ability to apply it with rigor and confidence.

The CCMP journey affirmed that change management is both a discipline and a craft. Although I had been practicing change leadership for over a decade, earning the certification gave me a deeper, more structured lens for understanding what makes change successful and sustainable. It has sharpened the way I engage stakeholders, measure readiness, and embed change into organizational culture. Personally, it's been rewarding to invest in my own growth after years of supporting others through theirs. Professionally, it’s elevated how my contributions are perceived, especially in high-stakes environments that demand both experience and formal credentials. And I bring added confidence, structure, and credibility to every change initiative I lead.

As a doctoral researcher focused on nonprofit board acumen and its influence on the likelihood of organizational change, I recognized the need to anchor my fieldwork and consulting in a globally recognized methodology. The CCMP offered not only a structured framework, but also a community of practice committed to ethical, people-centered transformation—something deeply aligned with both my research and the needs of the nonprofit clients I serve.

How did you prepare for the CCMP?

My preparation was both academic and experiential. I aligned the ACMP Standard with the change dynamics I was already studying in my dissertation and applied the model in real time while consulting with grassroots and mid-sized nonprofits. I also dedicated weekly study hours to review the Standard, create case-based flashcards, and simulate scenario-based decision-making to bridge theory and real-world strategy.

Earning the CCMP has amplified both my academic voice and my consulting practice. It provided credibility with boards and executive teams who were navigating complex shifts in governance, funding models, and leadership. It also opened doors to more intentional conversations about sustainable change and capacity-building in mission-driven environments.

I decided to pursue the CCMP™ certification as a personal challenge and an opportunity for continuous learning. What attracted me to this certification was its flexibility—I could complete it at my own pace—and its global recognition. More importantly, it is not just about theoretical knowledge but also about real experience and ongoing professional development. I saw it as a way to structure and validate my expertise in change management while growing in my field.

Getting back into study mode was challenging, especially finding time and concentration. However, it gave me a more structured understanding of change management.

Earning the CCMP™ certification was a valuable and insightful journey.

Professionally, it structured my understanding of change management, reinforcing that change is a continuous process rather than just isolated projects. It also helped me recognize the critical role of organizational culture and past experiences in managing change effectively.

Personally, the process challenged me to reflect on my experiences and recognize key lessons from my career.

It reinforced my belief in the importance of simplicity and acceptance in successful change.

I've led a lot of transformation initiatives and have reviewed various change frameworks and methodologies. I wanted to strengthen my understanding of change management and gain some recognition for my experience. I felt that pursuing the CCMP would help me achieve those goals.

How did you prepare for the CCMP?

I read the standard a few times, printed the flashcards the ACMP provides and used those for review, and also used Ready, Set, Change for practice questions.

Tell us your CCMP story. How has earning the CCMP benefited you personally and professionally?

It's given me a new appreciation for what it takes to lead change initiatives by giving me a new perspective on how to approach programs and projects. The most successful initiatives I've led have been from a change first perspective, and the knowledge and skills I've gained in pursing the CCMP have helped me as a leader.

Why did you decide to pursue the CCMP?

I have been leading public sector teams and progressing in my career, eventually becoming the Chief Administrative Officer of my municipality. Public sector organizations are frequently subject to change with each election cycle. Gaining my change management practitioner certification seemed to be a good fit for my job given that the people aspect of change is what I need to excel at to succeed. I already have a program management professional designation so the CCMP credential nicely complements my previous credentials.

How did you prepare for the CCMP?

I completed a change management course first. Then I went through the process of preparing an application and writing the essays. Once I was cleared to write the exam, I had to prepare for it. It was difficult due to the demands of work and life. I found some good resources to study. For example, the ACMP Standard is on Spotify and I played that over and over again on my way to work for two weeks.

It's early days. However, I hope this credential helps me be more successful as a leader. I also think my resume would look more attractive.
