How did you prepare for the CCMP?
Deliberately! In all transparency, like many of my peers and colleagues, I have practiced for many years. Having been affiliated with the ACMP over the years lends its own level of continuous preparation. However, once I decided to complete the examination, I set a six-month target in place to complete my goal. This was due to work/life balance and ensuring I allotted enough time to prepare for all segments of the exam. My level of comfort [and confidence] was high as I approached the exam, and this is where I believe all exam candidates should be. In the six months of study, I dedicated time for each of the exam segments and at the outset of each month combined all of the information leading up to that time until the fifth month when I was prepared to review all segments in a single session. At the close of five months of preparing alone, I was ready to take the exam!
How has earning the CCMP benefited you personally and professionally?
I have been a member of the ACMP since 2014 and joined the association as the CCMP was growing in its work stream developments, and a host of other design and review sessions. It was far from its current state, yet as an OCM Consultant I knew the potential value of having a credential that was recognized globally, appreciated among the Change discipline, and that would mature over time to be sought after by business leaders when needing expertise with improving their business' ability to change well. Since I have recently acquired the CCMP, there is only the benefit of achieving a personal and professional milestone. However, based on historical engagements with clients, the temperament of peers and colleagues across the change discipline, and the ever-increasing business demand for change expertise, I believe having acquired the CCMP will translate to both personal and professional benefits.
Are you involved in any other ACMP activities?
I have been a member of the NorCal Chapter since joining in 2014. I worked for a short time on one of the CCMP committees. Although I was more actively engaged during my initial years of membership than today, I look forward to participating in events and activities where I can share experience and advance the discipline.
How have these activities added value to your experience?
Having participated in the early development of the CCMP increased my appetite to acquire it. It has been my business engagements and leadership activities that have truly kept the CCMP on the forefront. There is something to be said regarding the merit and level of trust placed on credentials in business. I suspect adding the CCMP to my resume will only positively influence those I have not already had an opportunity to work with!
