I have been managing the people side of change initiatives for many years and have received several internal company certifications. I was curious as to whether my experience and knowledge met a recognized industry standard. Getting certified as one of the First 500 was the extra motivation I needed to sit for the exam. It's great to have my experience and knowledge validated by an independent and impartial organization.
How did you prepare for the CCMP?
I read through the Standard and the Code of Ethics and found that I had already been following and applying the Standard and the general approach. The only preparation I needed was to learn the terminology so that we're all thinking and speaking the same CM language. I reviewed the exam guide and played with the flash cards to gain familiarity with the various topics and terminology.
How has earning the CCMP benefited you personally and professionally?
As a CCMP, I'm now involved with many more projects that require OCM coverage or oversight. Such involvement has allowed me to learn more about different types of projects with varying approaches, and has given me the opportunity to both stretch and test my problem solving ability. Personally, it has just been a fun experience meeting like-minded professionals at the last Annual Conference.
