Title: Effective Partnerships in Change Management and Project Management: Relating, Aligning, and Integrating the Two Disciplines

Presenters: Chantel Butt and John Lawford

Description:

Do you have an effective and successful relationship with your Project Managers? The first step to building an effective relationship between a Change Lead and Project Management is to understand how the practices and roles of Change Management and Project Management relate and intersect with one another. Using findings from a successful multi-year case study, a seasoned Change Lead and Project Manager have identified the foundational understanding that needs to be in place before building a successful relationship between leaders of the two disciplines.

Skill Level: Intermediate (3-5 Years of Change Management Experience)

Track: Integrated Disciplines and Partnerships

Chantel Bio:

Chantel is a Certified Change Management Practitioner who has over 12 years of experience in both change management and project management.  Chantel has facilitated employee adoption of a wide range of changes, including IT applications and infrastructure changes, business process changes, new lines of business, organizational structure changes, business closures and acquisitions, and culture changes.  In her current role, she acts as a Change Lead for complex enterprise wide changes and teaches change management practitioner courses.  Chantel hold a Project Management Certificate from Grant MacEwan, a PROSCI Change Practitioner certification, and obtained her CCMP in 2017.  Chantel has been a member of ACMP since 2012 and has actively supported the advancement the ACMP Standard for Change Management within her work and her classes.

 

John Bio:

John has over a decade of experience in the field of project management working on a range of projects from IT deployments and conference delivery to information management policy and strategy executions. In his current role as manager of the Water Knowledge Management Office John leads a number of complex, multi-year initiatives that have led to significant culture and behavior changes. John holds a project leadership certificate from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology, as well as a Prosci change practitioner designation. John also holds a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Maryland Baltimore County with a double major in Economics and Information Systems Management. John is also an active member of ACMP, assisting in conference planning as a member of both the 2018 and 2019 speaker’s committees.

  • Understand why and how the disciplines of CM and PM relate and integrate
  • Define the difference between the roles of a Change Lead and Project Manager and why this distinction is important.
